Welcome to Gold Canyon Arizona. Gold Canyon is an unincorporated community located about 40 minutes east of the Phoenix SkyHarbor airport at the foot of the beautiful Superstition Mountains.
The community is made up of year round residents as well as seasonal "snow-birds" who come to the Gold Canyon area to escape the snow and cold of the areas they migrate from. There is something for everyone. Several award winning golf courses are located in the area. There are hiking trails as well as walking and biking paths. Desert wildlife abounds in the area. There are many home communities in all price ranges to choose from.
Approximately 20,000 residents live in Gold Canyon. Median age is approximately 55.1. About 70.4% of the population are married. About 90% of the homes are owner-occupied. Education wise, approximately 36.9% have a college degree, about 28.6% have some college-no degree and 27.1% have a high school diploma.
Projected growth between 2006 and 2011 is 32.1%.
The area is bordered by state trust land. There is major freeway access. Commercial land still exists for development and there is commercial space ready for businesses to move into and occupy. Besides the approximate 40 minute access to Phoenix's Sky Harbor airport, there is also the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport which is only about 20 minutes away, with a growing number of flights to many locales.
Many events are hosted in Gold Canyon throughout the year. There are also summer-time celebrations for the national holiday "Day of the Cowboy". There are local community organizations such as A.D.O.B.E. and others.
